About
I'm Adam Penn, a founder, operator, and investor based in Northern California. I build businesses around real assets and run them with an engineering mindset: systems-first, data-driven, and built to last.
I run Bidwell Capital Fund, Penn Properties, and co-host the Wealth Independence Podcast.
I studied Computer Science and started my career as a software engineer in Northern California. I enjoyed solving problems and building systems, but the desk job wasn't for me. Somewhere along the way, I started to feel the pull toward something more tangible and long-term. I wanted to build a legacy, not just a career.
In 2017, I put $23,000 into my first short-term rental. I always had a vision of owning 10 houses by the age of 30. I figured if I could debug software systems, I could figure out real estate operations. It turned out to be true, and more interesting than I expected. I used strategic debt and reinvested every gain. That one property became two, then five, then a multi-million-dollar portfolio, then a management company, then a syndication company with over $10,000,000 of investor capital raised.
Today, my team and I manage 50+ rental units through Penn Properties, where we handle everything from guest experience to maintenance systems to revenue optimization. On the investment side, Bidwell Capital helps other investors access real asset strategies: real estate ownership, oil & gas working interests, and debt funds.
The podcast started because I kept having the same conversations with friends in tech who wanted to invest but didn't know where to start beyond index funds. Dustin Bailey and I created Wealth Independence to share real frameworks, real case studies, and honest conversations about building passive income.
The common thread across everything I do is simple: I believe in owning real assets, running disciplined operations, and building toward a life where your work and your freedom aren't in conflict. That's the game I'm playing.
